Tracey: thanks & good luck. When dealing with hecklers, it's important to remember that they aren't really upset with you. They've got other things going on in their lives and this is just how it's all boiling over. Don't attack them, try to bend them to your view and get them to sit down and be quiet!

i loved your idea on how to silence the heckler, i've never heard that before and think it will be very useful for my upcoming class. It is difficult to not get distracted when people are speaking and I think your idea is going to work very well. Thanks and keep your fingers crossed for me!

[...] The best way to deal with a heckler is to do your best to prevent them from becoming a heckler in the first place. A heckler can show up in any audience and so part of your preparation to give a speech, you need to spend some time taking steps to defuse the things that might set a heckler off. Judi Bailey has done some research into just exactly what you can do and she’s got the following suggestions: [...]

[...] Just imagine your next presentation. You’ve studied your audience, researched your topic, created a speech, and practiced, practiced, practiced. You take the stage and start to smoothly deliver your speech. Just a few minutes into your speech, you become aware of someone, gasp, talking.
Great tips! I've faced hecklers myself and the choice of a proper counteraction always depends on the situation. In some cases a witty remark might help out. But you MUST be sure that your joke will hit the target.
